How much bedding?

Hamsters require enough space to allow your hamster to burrow and do things that are natural to them. Hamsters need a minimum of 1m  x 50cm (5000cm2) but bigger the better. Bedding should cover at least half of the enclosure and should be at least 20cm high.  Please be sure to freeze all bedding at least 24 hours before you put it in the enclosure.

Why so much bedding?

Hamsters are ground dwellers naturally. Hamsters have chambers that they will use to sleep, stash food and even use the bathroom. Bedding depth is very important as it will allow your hamster to create these chambers. Our bedding is soft and holds structures well so there is no need to worry about tunnels collapsing.
